Are you ready to Splice?

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good sci-fi flick (lord knows the Syfy network isn’t helping on that front). However, Adrien Brody seems to be working on changing that. Trying anyways.

She just wants to play with her dolly...

Teaming up with Sarah Polley, Brody’s new flick Splice will feature the both of them as a pair of genetic engineers that engage in some rather questionable ethics. They go too far when they splice human DNA together with some juicy tidbits of other animals and wind up managing to create some sort of freakish monster (which, as well know, is now destined to be unleashed on the world in a gruesome fashion). The creature, Dren, begins to learn and to grow, but at a much faster rate than the average public school system allows. Naturally, with knowledge comes power, and with power comes anger, and with anger—well, you know how the story goes.

Besides broaching the question of morality in the modern hot-button topic of genetics, I’ve not seen anything yet that’s set to blow my mind. Everything seems to follow a rather predictable course, though I will say the creature does look rather twisted—and I mean that in a good way. CHIMERA! I feared when I saw the creature as a baby that this would turn into some horrible killer baby scenario, but it seems they let the creature hit maturity so…that’s something, at least. Plus, Guillermo del Toro has attached his name to this, so you know the style is going to be astounding.

Here’s the trailer:

Splice is set to arrive in theaters on June 4.

And do you see the poll off to the side of your screen there? Vote. You know you want to.
